New Mexico Energy Efficiency Q&A

Q: What’s the most effective way to save energy?

A: New Mexico has adopted the newest Model Energy Code, which means that new homes built here are already required to be more energy efficient than many other parts of the country. Meaningful and impactful energy efficiency requires a comprehensive approach and commitment from the home’s design through construction and including the homeowners’ lifestyle habits. To pick just one method or material, such as attic insulation or high-performance windows, is a step in the right direction. However, this is only a small part of what could be accomplished by an all-inclusive approach.

John Kaltenbach firmly believes that a truly “green” home starts with designing the home appropriately for the lots unique topography and orientation and continues with a balanced approach to energy usage and how the home is going to be lived in.
